Hello and welcome to the 5th Grade!
I am excited to be your teacher this year. 
I look forward to working together with you to make our year together fun and educational!

Classroom Expectations
I am going to work hard to create fun and challenging activities that will prepare you for the Sixth Grade and the rest of your life. All that I ask is that you try your hardest every day and that you treat your fellow students and teachers with the respect they deserve.

Content Areas

• Religion – During class this year we will study a variety of topics ranging from the importance of the Ten Commandments to the Seven Sacraments.

• Social Studies – Fifth Grade students study Geography and US History up to the Revolutionary War.

• Language Arts – Our Language Arts class will focus on the writing process, vocabulary building, spelling and sentence mechanics.

• Reading –We will read and analyze a wide variety of stories from many different genres. The novels we read in 5 ^th grade include Hatchet and Johnny Tremain.

•  Science – The focus in fifth grade is on Life Science.  We will be studying cells, systems of the body, plants and ecosystems.  In the fifth grade we also spend a great deal of time working on our Science Fair project.

• Mathematics (Taught by Mrs. Janelle Turcotte)- Focus is on understanding of fractions, decimals and volume.  And, as with all math courses, persevering in solving problems is critical.  This requires being able to think deeply about numbers and how they work together.
   

Goals for the School Year
This year we will continue the process of becoming responsible global citizens who make well informed decisions based on fact, sound reasoning, and guided by our Christian beliefs.
